Calling all Delphi 5 and C++ Builder 5 users

7/19/2008

As usual - DON'T PANIC. I'm just investigating at this stage, but I need to know how many users we have using Delphi 5 and C++ Builder 5.

I've received reports from many users that Delphi 5 itself has many issues on Windows XP. I'm in the process of confirming this. But if this is the case, that would lead me to believe that in 2008 that there are very few users still remaining in Delphi 5 or C++ Builder 5 if they have such issues requiring work arounds on Windows XP. However there are still a few people developing on Windows 2000 on which they run fine.

If there are no users left, in the future I would like to eliminate Delphi 5 and C++ Builder 5 from our list. In truth, Delphi 5 really does not consume many resources as it is nearly compatible with Delphi 6. C++ Builder 5 can cause issues at times. But eliminating them would allow us to shrink the size of our install and reduce the complexity a bit of our build process.

Update

We have decided to continue Delphi 5 support. C++ Builder 5 continued support is still under consideration.
